Wellness Center: A Holistic and Uplifting Approach to Student Well-being
Located on the first and second floors of a classroom and office building, this facility serves as a locus for “mind and body” health, where students access medical, dental and counseling services. The facility provides a warm, friendly, confidential and welcoming environment that is not institutional and de-stigmatizes mental health services. Natural materials, soothing colors and ample natural light all contribute to a holistic healthcare approach.
Including PSU students in the planning and design process helped inform the space layout that infuses a holistic wellness attitude throughout, to create an environment to calm students under stress. Students enter a ‘commons’, acting as a lounge or hearth, with registration, waiting, and health information center.
