Alchemy of Design & Functionality

Due to growing outpatient surgery volumes at the Covington Medical Center, MultiCare saw the need to reopen an old ambulatory surgery center in the adjacent medical building. However, these ASC spaces were outdated with old systems, inadequate HVAC, worn-out finishes, and small sterile processing facilities.

The renovation aimed to improve functionality and efficiency by integrating modern surgical equipment and high sterile standards. Full-height stainless steel panels were added to the operating rooms for a cleanable surface. A new air handler and integrated ceiling enhance HEPA-filtered airflow over the surgical area. HVAC UV lights eliminate over 99% of airborne bacteria and viruses.

The renovated design and layout were carefully developed with input from surgical and sterile processing teams. The project stands out for its advanced surgical equipment, innovative wall panels, and off-site integrated ceiling system, all contributing to a highly sterile and efficient environment.
