Renovating a Former Grocery Store into a Healthcare Education Facility

MultiCare Health System provides an integrated educational system that helps MHS achieve elevated levels of performance in individuals, teams and the organization, through MultiCare University. Services include on-boarding new employees, recertification programs, electronic charting training, medical equipment use simulation, and new skills development. In addition to in-person education, MultiCare staff create content for online learning.

This project was a complete renovation of MultiCare University, occupying a former neighborhood grocery store. The facility includes classrooms for computer training, general class and conference rooms, huddle rooms for small groups, video production rooms, a student lounge, a skills lab for flexible staff training and certification, and a simulation lab to replicate various healthcare settings and scenarios. The facility also included a large, private administrative area for instructor workstations and off-stage support.

Goals of the project included creating a positive first impression for new employees, flexibility, increasing capacity, and improving the staff work environment.
