Building a Better Hospital
In 2006, MultiCare Health System provided the necessary capital to Good Sam Hospital for an extensive facility replacement. Clark Kjos led the master plan to consolidate all needed improvements into one large project utilizing a patient-centered approach to care, improving patient convenience and comfort. The nine-story, 357,000-square-foot building is a slender tower located on Puyallup’s prominent South Hill, providing the community with a state-of-the-art healthcare destination.
The new patient tower serves as a new campus hub for all of the campus’ hospital services, initiating patient pathways to outpatient “Express” services, Emergency Department, Admitting, Surgery suite, Imaging Department, and Acuity Adaptable Inpatient floors. Finishes support the patient-centered approach to design with warm wood finishes and abundant healing natural light.
Clark Kjos teamed with the contractor to design and construct this facility with collaborative strategies winning an ASHE Vista award. The project is celebrated as the first inpatient hospital in Washington state to achieve LEED gold certification.
