A Behavioral Health Unit for south King County
This major renovation converted an existing hospital progressive care wing to an adult inpatient behavioral health unit. It helps address the south Puget Sound’s growing need for dedicated inpatient psych beds. The facility will serve both voluntary and involuntary patients, considered to be a high-risk population, as directed by the court system. Specific measures were taken in the design of the unit to enhance safety for patients through the use of anti-ligature products, appropriate furniture, hardened surfaces and tamper-resistant hardware, all while providing a non-institutional environment , and promoting dignity and a sense of community for the patients.
